I’m sensing a pattern.

I almost always only post when I’m at the Simmons library pretending trying to do homework.

So, here I sit, surrounded by my cohorts who are doing all manner of things like:
– checking Facebook
– reading email
– texting
– etching their initials into the library Macs
– conducting phone calls
– watching YouTube
– gchatting
– plotting world domination via hair flipping
– yammering at each other
– eating
– painting their toenails
– ripping pages out of reference books
– or napping
and I find it challenging to feel too much like a slacker, even though I’m totally blowing off my work.  I want to be ashamed by my behavior, but I just can’t be.

I recently decided to class up my life, and I considered doing so by purchasing some fancy napkin rings and maybe some doilies.  Then I decided to save myself the trouble, and my new plan is to cut up some of my paper napkins to look like doilies (you know, paper snowflake-style) and then tie all the other napkins into knots.  It’s pretty much exactly the same as napkin rings and doilies, so I’m going to city hall tomorrow to change my name to Classy Abby. I can’t wait for my roommates to admire my handiwork.

I came to the library today to do a specific assignment that’s due tomorrow.  I have to write a problem statement for a proposed study (I’m taking a class about library-related evaluation… which means we’re spending the whole semester crafting brilliant research proposals, the first element of which is a problem statement).  I came up with a pretty kick-ass-ly original idea for mine, about which I am PSYCHED.  My only issue is that I left all of my notes at home.  It’s sort of a big issue as I haven’t the faintest idea how to write a problem statement, but I’m pretty sure that my professor spent three hours explaining it to me last week in class. I can’t be certain of that, but I am relatively well convinced.  My plan: blog and check Facebook for a couple of hours and do the assignment tomorrow afternoon before class, 0bviously.

I have been telling everyone I meet (quite literally) about how much I love my job lately.  It’s just so awesome. My boss is super, my coworkers are friendly, and the work I do is splendid.  I get to a) play with old things, b) play with metadata, c) answer reference questions by conducting research, d) help totally awesome patrons interested in social justice conduct meaningful research, e) learn about new things, people, events, and organizations, and f) get paid.  It’s like MAGIC!  I love you, job!  I wish I could hug my job. My job deserves a hug.
